Healing is a time-honored Jewish tradition, with examples seen as far back as Biblical times. Over the millennia, Jewish tradition has produced a myriad of systems and methods of healing, ranging from the physical to the emotional to the spiritual. In the earliest of times the healing methodologies were the privilege of a select few. They may have been prophets who were chosen by God, and later those of great medical knowledge and learning. Some were rabbis and leaders who were able to attend to the needs of those in spiritual distress. Still others were mystics who, based on Torah and wisdom passed down secretly through the generations, developed esoteric methods of healing. With all of these approaches to healing of mind, spirit, and body, numerous means, rules and laws, as well as prayers emerged and evolved. Jewish Healing: Systems and Practices presents many areas of healing, along with the understanding of how and why they are practiced as they are.

In Healing Spirit, Body, and Soul, the editor draws from original writings of one of the founders of Jewish Science, an authentically Torah and Rabbinic-rooted system of health and well-being, to present a healing system applicable to all. When we speak of healing, we do not refer to a change in the laws of nature. Rather, we mean the restoration of the laws of nature. This power is not only present in people, but in all of nature. Healing is a law of God set within people, as an expression of God’s goodness toward them. In this text chapters and articles from similar topics have been collected, and using an editorial process that takes sentences from one article and follows them with sentences from another source on the same topic, each chapter presented here reads as one flowing essay.

Additionally, perspectives and aspects of the Kabbalistic tradition are explained, as are the Jewish liturgical tradition, and how prayers have portrayed understandings of God. The contributing authors demonstrate their expertise in their respective areas, allowing the reader a greater grasp of an often difficult and complex topic.
