О премии

Премия Эдгара Аллана По (часто, премия «Эдгар», англ. Edgar), названная в честь американского писателя Эдгара По, вручается ежегодно ассоциацией «Детективных писателей Америки» (Mystery Writers of Ameriсa, MWA).
MWA является ведущей организацией писателей детективов и других криминальных жанров. MWA пропагандирует уважение к самому жанру криминального романа и к тем, кто пишет в этом жанре.
Всего существует больше 20 премий в разных жанрах, в том числе и для телевидения. Первые премии были вручены в 1946 году.

На премию могут быть номинированы только дебютные романы авторов, имеющих гражданство США. Это единственная номинация премии, в которой не могут быть представлены авторы, не имеющие гражданства США.
Роман может быть опубликован в формате электронной или бумажной (в твердой или мягкой обложке) книги.
Если автор прежде публиковался под псевдонимом, он не может претендовать на данную номинацию.

Лучший роман
Best Novel

Премия в данной номинации вручается с 1954г. по настоящее время.
На премию могут быть номинированы романы американских и иностранных авторов, опубликовавших роман с официальным переводом в США.
Роман должен быть опубликован только в твердом переплёте.
Дебютный роман американского автора не может быть представлен в данной номинации.

Лучшая книга в мягкой обложке
Best Paperback Original

Премия в данной номинации вручается с 1970г. по настоящее время.
На премию могут быть номинированы романы американских и иностранных авторов, опубликовавших роман с официальным переводом в США.
Роман должен быть опубликован в мягком переплёте или электронном варианте.

Лучший короткий рассказ
Best Short Story

Премия в данной номинации вручается с 1951г. по настоящее время.
На премию могут быть номинированы произведения, изданные в журналах, периодических изданиях, электронных журналах или антологиях, длиной от 1 000 до 22 000 слов.

Лучший подростковый роман
Best Young Adult

Премия в данной номинации вручается с 1989г. по настоящее время.
Роман может быть опубликован в мягком или твёрдом переплёте, написанный для детей возраста 13-18 лет.

Лучший детский роман
Best Juvenile

Премия в данной номинации вручается с 1961г. по настоящее время.
Роман может быть опубликован в мягком или твёрдом переплёте, написанный для детей возраста 5-12 лет.

Премия Мэри Хиггинс Кларк
Mary Higgins Clark Award

Премия в данной номинации вручается с 2001г. по настоящее время.
Победителя выбирает специальный комитет MWA (Mystery Writers of Ameriсa). Номинированы могут быть книги тех писателей, чья творческая манера соответствует произведениям Мэри Хиггинс Кларк и которые написаны в соответствии с рекомендациями, изложенными ею:
- главный герой - привлекательная молодая женщина, в жизни которой произошло какое-то неожиданое событие;
- она самостоятельная и независимая, у нее хорошие отношения с семьёй;
- у нее интересная работа;
- она не ищет приключений сама - она живет обычной жизнью, в которой в определенный момент что-то происходит;
- она решает свои проблемы за счет своей смелости и ума;
- в романе нет жестокой расправы над жертвой на месте преступления;
- в романе нет грубых непристойных ругательств и явных сексуальных сцен.
