Word salad. Very disappointed, bad effort. I don't think there was anything to like! It is an irresponsible and misleading book, careless methodology, no particularly original arguments. Timothy Snyder is not a political scientist.
I'm surprised Snyder holds a coveted professorship and suspect that he would not have such institutional success were it not for the fact that his particularly lurid brand of hysteria-based history makes best-seller lists. The media love Snyder because he merely affirms their over simplistic approach to the former USSR, Many people who have experience in this region are far more critical of his work. Those voices are rarely heard in a culture that needs an enemy to fear.
