Idgie and Ruth bought the cafe in 1929, right in the middle of the Depression, but the food was always good there. It's strange: the wholeworld was suffering, but at the cafe those years felt like the happy times. A lot of nights we'd all sat at the cafe and just listened to the radio. And now I don't even want to look at or listen to the news anymire. Everybody is fighting each other. I think the bad news affects people, makes them mean... I just don't believe that people are happy now - not like they used to be. Before, we were happy and didn't know it.
