Perhaps in an ideal society neither a supply of nor a demand for prostitutes would exist; or else prostitution might be a service occupation with good working conditions, as respected as any other. But we do not live in such a society. Prostitution exists today because women are objectified sexually, and because it is considered more permissible for men than for women to have purely sexual experiences. The same was true in the Middle Ages.
